Project brief

Metálicas Unión S.A. is a Peruvian company with more than 70 years of experience in the design and manufacture of racks, storage systems, shelving, lockers, industrial equipment and security. The company wants to renew its website to generate greater exposure, get more leads and make customers have an easier way of contacting them. They currently have a website that works but it has outdated information and no one tracks the results.

Website audit

Before the first meeting with Metálicas Unión, a review of their current website was carried out, as well as that of their competitors. This way we were able to benchmark and point out opportunities for improvement. We also carry out an SEO and performance audit to compare the before and after.

Objective setting

In the meeting with the Metálicas Unión team we defined the objectives of the project and talked about the problems they face. We were able to define 2 main objectives and 5 specific objectives.

Main objectives

  1. Increase visits and leads.
  2. Generate greater online exposure.

  1. Improve the organization and navigation of the page.
  2. Allow products to be found with Google searches.
  3. Make contact easier for those who arrive to the web.
  4. Help visitors  find what they want easily.
  5. Generate more confidence in visitors.

Problem identification

Once the objectives were defined, we made a list of problems identified in the initial meeting, as well as the problems identified in the analysis of improvement opportunities.

Idea generation

Based on the identified problems, we generated ideas for the new design of the website.

Information architecture

We continued with an analysis of the current information architecture and the new proposal, taking into consideration the objectives and the analysis carried out previously. The information architecture is the structure of the website and defines the hierarchy and order between the pages.

Layouts

After defining the information architecture, we work on the layouts. A layout is the structure of the elements that each page has within the information architecture:

Wireframes

Once we had clarity about the pages and the structure of the pages, we started the first designs in Figma. We design low-fidelity wireframes or sketches of each page considered in the information architecture.

Content definition

After validating the wireframes, we made a content map and worked together to define the text that would go on each page.

Branding

To continue with the design process, we defined the colors and typography that the new website will have, using the company logo and its current colors.

Mockups

Once the branding and content were defined, we move on to the last stage of the design, the mockups. A mockup is a visual representation with all the details of how the website will look once it is developed.

Learnings

• To increase the chances of closing a sale, value must be delivered before the first contact with the customer. This is how we demonstrate that we know,  build trust and increase the perceived value of our service.

• It is necessary to have a schedule with established deadlines for each process and scheduled meetings with clients so that the project progresses properly. Many times clients have other priorities and scheduling meetings or sending information becomes complicated if we do not have a clear schedule from the beginning.

• As for the content, it is better to obtain the information through interviews with key people and write it up rather than wait for someone to pass it to us. If we wait for someone to pass us the information, the process can take time and we depend on another person.

• It is advisable to define the SEO strategy that we are going to follow before creating the information architecture, this must go hand in hand with the objectives and plans to optimize SEO.
